What is CBG?
CBG (cannabigerol) is one of the many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Like CBD and THC, which are more well-known cannabinoids, CBG plays an important role in the chemical makeup of the plant. Here are some key points about CBG:
“The Mother Cannabinoid”: CBG is often referred to as the “mother cannabinoid” because it is the precursor from which other cannabinoids such as CBD, THC and CBC are formed. During the growth of the plant, CBGA (the acid form of CBG) is converted to either CBDA or CBCA, which is then converted to THC, CBD or CBC through a decarboxylation process.
Where does CBG come from?
CBG is typically found in lower concentrations in most cannabis strains compared to CBD and THC, however, there are specially engineered strains that have been bred to contain higher amounts of CBG.
